Welcome!
Swoboda Deaf Center (SDC) is the only Deaf owned community center in the Chicagoland area for the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind, CODA (Children of Deaf Adults), and ASL signers to come together. Swoboda Deaf Center’s mission is to provide resources, educational workshops, social gatherings, and special events including cultural awareness.
My goal is to bring the community closer, collaborate with other Deaf non-profit-organizations, Deaf entrepreneurs and provide more opportunities for all. One of my goals as President, is to increase our programming. I’ve recruited a Kids Program Director, a Deaf Artist, and an ASL Teacher to establish a Kids Program and STEM workshops. We have created 2D art frames to support both Deaf artists and ASL signer artists, Arts/Crafts workshops, and to teach American Sign Language.
We’re excited about our programming in 2024! In the new year we are exploring the possibility of a Deaf History Museum and other programs such as hosting a basic CPR course, a blood drive and fire education for the community. Keep an eye on our website for updated information.
Swoboda Deaf Center welcomes all people to come visit the center and attend any of the upcoming events listed on the Events page. We hope to see you there.
Feel free to reach out to me at swobodadeafcenter@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Monica Kumar Ross
